Obituary

Will be missed but not forgotten…

Victor Lynn Richards, 93, of Malad, Idaho passed away on October 27, 2018 at his home in Two Mile, the same home he was born in on November 20, 1924. Lynn was born to Victor Chivers (Bud) Richards and Mary (Mae) Bell. Lynn had fond memories of his childhood on the farm in Two Mile, and dearly loved the time he got to spend with his grandparents, Ma and Pa Jake. He attended school in Malad, and graduated from Malad High School in 1943. He was one of the last two survivors of the Malad High School 1943 State Basketball Championship team. Betty Jean Jones was a classmate of his and they were married in the Logan LDS Temple on June 7, 1944. Lynn was drafted into the US Army in 1945 and served in World War ll for two years. He was stationed in the Philippines and Japan following the dropping of atomic bombs on Japan.

When Lynn arrived home from the war, Betty and their 13 month daughter, Gay Lynn, whom Lynn had never seen, were waiting. The family then moved to Logan where Lynn took advantage of the GI Bill and attended Utah State University.

Following his schooling, they moved back to Malad and Lynn worked on the farm. It was there that their second daughter, Joan, was born. Three years later a son, Jerry, joined the family. Lynn kept busy running the farms in Two Mile and St. John along with picking up seasonal jobs around the area.

In 1968 the family moved to Soda Springs, Idaho where he operated Lynn's Shoe Repair for 30 years. He took great pride in his workmanship and had many loyal customers who became his good friends. Lynn and Betty found a favorite spot up 8 Mile Canyon where they would park their trailer every summer. They had happy memories of that beautiful spot.

In 1998 they returned to live on the homestead in Two Mile. Lynn found multiple ways to keep busy, setting up his shoe repair equipment in his garage. The last job Lynn had was as the gatekeeper for the "Malad Mall", where he retired at the age of 90.

Lynn had a wealth of knowledge of life and the people of the Malad Valley. Friends and Neighbors visited Lynn often and he would share his experiences. His quick wit and storytelling skills will be missed.

Lynn was preceded in death by his wife of 68 years, Betty Jean; his sister, Nulda Telford; and Crickett. He is survived by his children, Gay Lynn Dunn, Joan Patten, and Jerry (Chris) Richards. Lynn and Betty had four grandchildren, Trudy, Rob (Leslie), Jeff and Jessica. Lynn was very proud of his 6 great grandchildren, Jacob, Catherine, and Emma; Asher, Taylor, and Olivia, He is also survived by his niece Nancy (Bob) Blair. Lynn had

what he called his "children by choice", Harry and Patsy Sherman, Jeff and Wendy Alder, Jason and Brett Harris, and Chip and Cheri Jacobsen.

As per Lynn's request, there will be no formal funeral services. There will be a graveside service on Saturday, November 10, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. in the St John Cemetery. Military rites will be rendered by the American Legion. In lieu of flowers, Lynn requested contributions be made to the Oneida Education Foundation in memory of Ashlee Alder, in care of: Gloria Jean Thomas, 315 Bannock Street, Malad, Idaho 83252
