Thomas Dwight Rethard, jr. passed away on Sunday, January 13, 2019, at St. Mark's Hospital in Salt Lake City, Utah. Tom was born on December 3, 1947 in Las Vegas, Nevada to Thomas Dwight Rethard Sr. and Audrey B. Tucker.
Tom graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in English from Northwestern Louisiana University, and with a Master's Degree in Computer Science and Engineering from the University of Texas at Arlington, where he taught for several years.
He has been a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints since 2009, served as an ordinance worker in the Dallas Texas temple until 2017, and most recently served as the Ward Mission Leader in the Malad 4th Ward.
From January to November of 1971 Tom served his country as a Lieutenant in the U.S. Army in Vietnam, as part of Charlie Company, 15th Field Artillery.
Tom is survived by his wife Ann; daughter Sarah Rethard O'Neal; grandson Patrick Lewis O'Neal III (Mick); son, Mason Katz; sister Debbie Morgan (Paul); stepmother Loretta Rethard; half-sister Raegan Rethard Hensley (Bill) and half-brother. Blaine. Tom was the "bonus dad" to Ann's children – AnnMarie Anderson (Mark); David Hooste (Cheryse); Lara Britton (Josh); Richard Hooste; Mark Hooste (Vahnessa); Joanna Hooste and Jared Hooste (Gwen.) Eighteen grandchildren complete the family.
Tom was preceded in death by his father, Thomas Dwight Rethard, Sr.; his mother Audrey B. Tucker Johnson and his stepfather Eugene W. Johnson.
Funeral services will be held Friday, January 18, at 12 noon. at the Horsley Funeral Home in Malad, Idaho, with burial at the Malad Cemetery. Friends are welcome to visit with family from 10:30 a.m. until services begin at noon. Burial will follow in the Malad City Cemetery where Military Rites will be accorded.
