Obituary

Shirley Edna Knight passed peacefully in her sleep on Wednesday, February 20, 2019. She was born Shirley Edna Bell in Jamaica, New York on July 24,1921 to Charles & Edna Mae Bell. She was proceeded in death by both parents, her Stepfather Fred Earnest, sister Mae, three husbands (Joseph Schreiber, Ernest Joseph Palmer and Billie Lewis Knight) and her son Joseph Michael Schreiber. She is survived by her sister Audrey Gentil, her daughter Michele Frances Schreiber Shuler (Steven Kirk), 6 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren.

Shirley spent her childhood on Long Island and in Brooklyn, New York. She was an US Air Force Officer wife for over 26 years which included WWII, the Korean and Viet Nam Wars. She lived in Okinawa, Japan and several US States. After retirement she spent almost 50 years in Boise, Idaho before moving to Bonney Lake, Washington to be near her daughter and family.

Shirley loved to read and was never without a book in her purse. During her years at Cedar Ridge Assisted living she looked forward to Book Mobile days where the Librarian would have several books selected just for her. Her love of traveling and downhill skiing took her to almost every State & numerous Countries. She skied until she was 75 years old and continued to travel into her 90s. She especially enjoyed her several trips to the Hawaiian Islands. She also went on several Cruises in the Caribbean, to Alaska and through the Panama Canal. Throughout the years Shirley volunteered for several organizations and served as the Officer's Wives President while at Mountain Home AFB, Idaho. Shirley loved to entertain and socialize with her many friends she had throughout her wonderful 97 years before her last flight Home.

Friends may visit with the family at the Horsley Funeral Home in Malad City, Idaho on Saturday March 2, 2019 at 11:00 am followed by a graveside service where she will be laid to rest next to her 2nd husband, Ernest Joseph Palmer in the Malad Cemetery.
