In loving memory of Linda Bernice Gentry

Linda Bernice Gentry was born May 2, 1949, in WynneWood, Oklahoma to Jarrett Daniel and Alma Bernice Gentry. Two years later, she was joined by her brother Charles, and four years after that, her little brother Robert . Linda grew up surrounded by a loving family, with many aunts, uncle, nieces and nephews living nearby. Family was always important part of Linda’s life and those early years gave many memories that she carried on throughout her life.

On Father’s Day in 1963, the Gentry family moved to Caribou County, Idaho, where Linda began her freshman year of high school. Linda was a bubbly, outgoing, young woman, and didn’t it didn’t take long for her to make new friends. Even so, she missed the family and friends that she had left behind in Oklahoma.

At 17 while working at the DND café, Linda met the love of her life, Duane, Leon Petersen, who everyone knew as Pete. Their love grew and on September 2, 1966 they were married at the first Christian Church in Gooding, Idaho. Linda and Pete spend their early years together in Soda Springs before moving to Pocatello in 1969. They enjoyed many adventures together camping snow machining, trapshooting and traveling. Linda especially love traveling with Pete to San Francisco for union conventions. They made many wonderful memories together and shared a life filled with love, laughter, and companionship.

Linda and Pete long for a child, and in 1981 their dreams came true when they adopted their son Jonathan Duane Petersen. Jonathan brought a special kind of joy into their lives, and Linda treasured being a mom.

In 1978, Linda and Pete settled in McCannon, where they built their lives together. Linda began her career in banking at just 19 years old and dedicated many years to her work before retired in 2011. She was a hardworking and caring woman who took pride in the life she had built. But more than anything, Linda treasured her family. She worked hard to keep family relationships close, always showing her love and care for those around her.

She was dearly loved by all of us, and her kindness warmth and loving spirits touched so many many lives. Although our hearts are heavy with the loss of Linda. We can find comfort knowing that the love she gave us will never leave us. Her memory will live on in the stories we tell, the moments we shared and in the love she gave so freely to her family.

Linda passed away peacefully at home with Pete by her side on October 1, 2026 at the age of 77. Linda was deeply loved, and she will be deeply missed. But she will never be forgotten. Her love will remain with us every day, and she will forever hold a special place in our hearts.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
