Lila Wakley Morrison
downey....Lila Ellis Wakley Morrison, 93, longtime Downey resident, passed away on February 3, 2009 in Logan, Utah. she was born November 22, 1915 in Preston, Idaho, a daughter of James William and Lucy Newnswander Ellis. She was raised and went to school in Malad, Idaho. She married Don Wakley on October 29, 1934 and moved to Downey. They had two daughters; Carol and Linda. Don died in 1970 and in 1972 she married Leland Morrison. He passed away in 1993. In 1987, her daughter Linda died of cancer, leaving an empty spot in Lila's heart. She was an active member of the church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and had served as a primary teacher. She also served as secretary-treasurer under seven different presidencies in the Relief Society. Lila worked many years at the Downey Fair, where she was known for her beautiful handwork. Lila is survived by one daughter; Carol (John) Kerr of Wellsville, Utah; nine grandchildren; Scott, Don, Mike and Shauna Kerr; Logan, Gavin and Nathan Sorensen ; Charoone Gunter and Teresa Hottel. 26 great grandchildren and 6 great great grandchildren; one half brother; Clair Ellis; and her step mother Lucy Ellis. She is also survived by the Morrison family; Lynn (Joan) Morrison; Joe (Joyce) Morrison; Dan (Barbara) Morrison and Lola Morrison. 18 step grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husbands; sisters; Verda Gibson and Lorna Ellis; 3 brothers; Dean Ellis, George Ellis, Vern Ellis, and her daughter, Linda Sorensen. Step children; Paul and Jean Morrison, Phillip Morrison, Drew Morrison, Clayton Morrison and step grandson, Kent Morrison. Funeral services will be held on Saturday February 7, 2009 at 12 noon in the Downey LDS Chapel, Bishop Ronald Wakley, officiating. Friends may visit with the family on Saturday prior to services from 10:30-11:45. Burial will follow in the downey City Cemetery.
