Leslie Ralph Thompson, 100, of Malad City, Idaho, passed away on May 28, 2026. He was born on January 12, 1926, in Greensburg, Kansas.
Leslie served in the United States Marine Corps, taking part in the Pacific Theater during World War II and witnessing the Japanese surrender aboard the USS Missouri. He later served in the Occupation of China and was reactivated for service during the Korean War.
In 1955, he moved his family to Idaho, where he enjoyed hunting, fishing, reloading, and target shooting. He worked for many years at natural gas compressor stations in Oklahoma, Wyoming, and Idaho. In his fifties, he completed an electrician apprenticeship and earned a Tri-States Journeyman Electrician’s License, continuing in that field until his retirement in 1996.
Leslie is survived by three children: Chris Thompson (DeeDee) of Roseville, California; Joe Thompson (Christa) of Colorado Springs, Colorado; and Susan Thompson of Salida, Colorado. He was preceded in death by four sons. He leaves behind numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren.
He will be remembered as a friendly, affable man who built many lasting friendships in the Malad community.
