Dean Day
Lava Hot springs........Dean Day, 87, of Lava Hot Springs, passed away on August 23, 2009 at his home. Dean was born March 1, 1922 in Tetonia, Idaho, a son of Fred and Edith Halverson Day. He grew up in the Topaz area, just west of Lava, where he farmed with his family. Dean completed the tenth grade of school in Lava and at that time went to work full time. Dean and Ethel Barnes were married on March 22, 1941 in Topaz. They lived in Topaz, Chesterfield and Bancroft until 1959, when they moved to Lava Hot Springs. Dean worked for the canel company and took care of the Chesterfield Dam. He also worked with heavy equipment in construction and farmed. For 8 years he worked for the Caribou County Road Department. From 1960 until 1984 he worked for the Bannock County Road and Bridge Company, where he retired as the South Bannock County Supervisor. Dean continued farming in Lava until the time of his passing. Dean was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Edith, a daughter; LaJean Hobson (Jerry); a son, Ronald Dean Day and two brothers; Merle and David. He is survived by a son; David(Colleen) Day of Lava Hot Springs; two daughters; Nadene Jones (Pete, deceased) of Pocatello; Cheryl (Ross) Thomas of Hemet, California; ex-daughter in law; Christie Day and a sister; Dawno Washburn of Boise, Idaho. 14 grandchildren, 35 great grandchildren and 8 great great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held on Saturday August 29 at 1:00 pm in the Lava LDS Ward Chapel. Friends may visit with the Day family on Friday August 28 from 6-8 pm at Horsley's Marsh Valley Funeral Home 570 N. Meadowview Dr. in Arimo. ( I-15 Arimo Exit #40, located 1 mile south of Marsh Valley High School ) ,and on Saturday at the Lava LDS Church prior to services from 11:30 am-12:45 pm. Burial will follow in the Lava Cemetery.
