Obituary

David Nicholai (Nick) Sorensen

October 10, 2026

David Nicholai (Nick) Sorensen, son of Myron and Beulah Sorensen, passed away unexpectedly of natural causes on October 10, 2026, at his home in Hillsboro, Oregon. He had recently celebrated his 76th birthday.

Nick is survived by his beloved wife of 52 years, Jayne; their sons, Jacob (Adrianna), Adam (Erin), and Alec (Meghan); and 15 incredible grandchildren. He is also survived by his siblings, Susan Baer, Stephen Sorensen (Janet), Sheila Andreason (Aaron), Sherie Budge (Jim), and Scott Sorensen (Rose). He was preceded in death by his brother-in-law Steve Baer.

Nick (born in Provo, Utah), grew up in Malad, Idaho enjoying his family, the comradery and antics of friends, and working with his father on the family ranch in Arbon Valley. He was pleased to move on to the “big city” to attend Brigham Young University and then the University of Chicago Law School. He served a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Brazil from early 1970 to 1972. In the decades that followed in San Francisco and Piedmont California, he continued to serve faithfully in numerous Church callings. This included five rewarding years as bishop of the young adult ward at the University of California, Berkeley. He also traveled around the US and internationally for work.

Nick treasured time with family and friends and found joy in shared adventures, cooking and exploring a wide variety of foods, reading and hunting for books, pursuing genealogy and family stories, and engaging in meaningful conversation. Until his parents passed, he drove his family every year to visit them in Malad meeting up with family members, especially for the 4th of July. His love for his family and his many years of faithful service were central to his life. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

A graveside service will be held Saturday, October 7, 2026, at 1:30 pm. at the Malad City Cemetery.
