Obituary

Cory Romney Curtis was born into this world on July 13, 1953, in Salt Lake City, UT. He departed into the loving arms of his Savior on November 3, 2026, after a hard fought battle with cancer. He passed away peacefully surrounded by loved ones in his home of over 33 years in Holbrook, Idaho.

He explored every option and turned over every rock, voraciously seeking a wide variety of alternative options to beat the odds of his disease. We are proud of his fight and grateful for every extra second with him that his extensive research and efforts provided.

Cory was raised in a loving family on the East Bench of beautiful Salt Lake City, UT. He graduated from East High School and later attended Ricks College in Idaho. He went on to serve a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Tallahassee, Florida. Not too soon after he returned home, he found the love of his life and soulmate, Arwella Pierce, whom he later married on June 1, 1978.

Together they raised their seven children in the hills of Holbrook, Idaho. Cory knew the value of play and connection, and he was dedicated to creating an atmosphere of laughter and delight for his family. He was also his children's biggest advocate and fan.

He was an exceptionally wonderful husband, father, and friend. Generous to a fault, the repetitive soundtrack of his life could accurately be described as, “People are more important than things.”

Ever the nonconformist, Cory took the road less traveled. A critical thinker, an avid reader, a phenomenal conversationalist, an intellectual master, an extraordinary wordsmith, he devoted himself to uncovering the mysteries of life. Not one to take himself too seriously, Cory also had an incredible sense of humor and wit.

He was a dedicated, self-taught scholar of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. He spent the last 40 years of his life studying the history of the Gospel, with the goal to prove the Divinity of God and Jesus Christ.

His life’s mission was to help all to come unto Christ. A prolific writer and blogger, he dedicated himself to important Gospel truths and history. It was his passion, his gift, his life’s work.

Cory was preceded in death by his children, Tres and Kalee; his parents, Marvin and Carrol Curtis; his stepmother, Darlene (Bernatz) Curtis; and his siblings, Rosemary (Curtis) Neider, Robyn (Curtis) Anderson, and Matthew Curtis; and his sister-in-law, Joan (Cannon) Curtis.

He is survived by his wife, Arwella; their children, Shane (Kate) Curtis, Jordan (Jessica) Curtis, Brin (Aaron) Novak, Jesse (Selina) Curtis, Eli Curtis; his nine beloved grandchildren; and his siblings, Marv Curtis, Jr., Natalie (Curtis) McCullough, and Chris Curtis.

We deeply mourn his loss while also celebrating a life well-lived, a deeply good and generous soul, an incredibly intelligent human, a man of true character, intention and integrity—our dear husband, father and friend—Cory Romney Curtis.
