Obituary

Ann Lona Rash passed away March 21, 2018 in Malad, Idaho at 102 years old while living with her daughter. Lona was born November 2, 1915 in Sugar City, Idaho to John Thomas and Ann Bodily Galbraith Elliott. She was the oldest of six children. She was raised in St. Anthony, Idaho where she fondly remembered family outings, swimming in the HenryÕs Fork of the Snake River, and her grandparents Elliott. Lona graduated from St. Anthony High School in 1933 and then moved with her family to Rexburg, Idaho where she graduated from Ricks College with a two-year degree. She then continued at the University of Idaho graduating in 1937 with a B.A. as an English major. Her first teaching job was in Driggs, Idaho at Teton High School where she taught English, typing, speech, biology and P.E.
Lona married Marcus Lefgren Jensen in 1939. They were divorced in 1962. To this union were born three children, Calvin, Sharon and Gar. They began married life at a C.C.C. camp at Midway, Idaho where Marcus was the superintendent and then came to Boise in 1941 where Lona made her home except for when she was back east while Marcus was in training during WWII and at her daughterÕs home for the final two years.
Lona married William Franklin (Frank) Rash in 1964 and her family expanded to include FrankÕs five living children and their children. They had many adventures together including trips, camping in the Sawtooths, walking with the Happy Hoofers, cheering the BSU Broncos, and skiing. Frank passed away in 1999.
Lona taught English, reading and journalism at North Junior High from 1955 until retiring in 1978 but was always a learner and educator. She was bright, witty, creative, fun and caring. She loved the outdoors including her flowers and flower gardens. She was an excellent seamstress and knitter. She was not afraid to do new things and to innovate and organize.
Lona was preceded in death by her former husband Marcus and Frank, her five brothers and sister and their spouses, John Budge (Norma) Elliott, Gordon Thomas (Lois) Elliott, Richard Bruce (Billa) Elliott, Helen Agnes (Elmer) Perl, and Grant Edgar (Dolores) Elliott, and one great grandchild. She was also preceded in death by FrankÕs children Bill, Robert, Jack and Richard Rash.

She is also survived by FrankÕs children, Ron Rash of Maryland and Bonnie (Jerry) Van Camp of Mesa, Arizona and numerous grand and great grandchildren. Two grandchildren presently living in Boise are Shaina Jensen and Bob (Robbin) Rash.
