Obituary

Andrew Sorensen, from Lava Hot Springs, Idaho, passed away peacefully on August 1, 2010 at the age of 88. Andrew was born in Chicago, Illinois to Lawrence and Clara Mae Sorensen. He was one of six brothers.

He graduated from Thomas Kelly High School of Chicago and later enrolled in the government civilian conservation corp. He became a heavy duty operator and was stationed in various places including Provo, Utah, Winnemuca, Nevada, and Hagerman and Shoshone, Idaho. After two years he returned to Chicago and operated a restaurant with his older brother and partner. He also served in the south pacific during World War II.

He married Helen Swapp from Provo, Utah and they raised three children; Barbara Kambouris, who preceded Andrew in death, Jim Sorensen of Denver, CO, and Lee Anderson of Boise, Idaho. He graduated with a B.S. degree in education from Brigham Young University and taught public school his entire career; first in Milford, Utah, then did the bulk of his teaching at the Intermountain Indian School in Brigham City, Utah, and later taught in Salt Lake City.

He retired in Lava Hot Springs and lived there until his death. He considered Lava Hot Springs his home and loved his community and the people who surrounded him there. He also loved his children and his 11 grandchildren and considered them his greatest accomplishment. Services will be held on Friday August 6, 2010 at 11:00 am in the Lava Hot Springs LDS Chapel. Friends may visit with the Sorensen family on Friday prior to services from 9:30-10:45 am.
